Evaporation Materials

Vacuum evaporation is a form of physical vapor deposition (PVD) used in the semiconductor, microelectronics, and optical industries and in this context is a process of depositing thin films of material onto surfaces. Such a technique consists of pumping a vacuum chamber to pressures of less than 10−5 torr and heating a material to produce a flux of vapor to deposit the material onto a surface. The material to be vaporized is typically heated until its vapor pressure is high enough to produce a flux of several Angstroms per second by using an electrically resistive heater or bombardment by a high voltage beam.

For these applications in the thin film (PVD) industry SAFINA offers pellets, shots or slugs as well as thermal and E-Beam evaporation starter sources made from Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and their alloys with other components.
-All pellets are available in standard sizes, 1/4″ x 1/4″ or 1/8″ x 1/8″, and we also provide custom sizes according to customer specifications.
-All of our evaporation materials are vacuum casted to minimize dissolved gases – as opposed to atmospheric casting (used for coins and bullion), which can trap impurities that are released during the deposition process.
-High purity products for physical vapor deposition are offered with a multi-step cleaning process and vacuum packaging for shipment and storage.
-Each order is packed individually, so we offer any volume according to your needs and based on your order. Typical lead times range from immediate shipment from our stock to up to 3 weeks.

Sputtering Targets

Sputtering is a proven technology capable of depositing thin films from a wide variety of materials onto diverse substrate shapes and sizes. The process is repeatable and can be scaled up from small research and development projects, to production batches involving medium to large substrate areas. The sputtering gas is often an inert gas such as argon. For efficient momentum transfer projectile mass must match target mass, so for sputtering light elements neon is used also and for heavy elements krypton or xenon is used. Reactive gases are used to sputter compounds. The chemical reaction can occur on the target surface, in-flight or on the substrate depending on the process parameters. The many parameters make sputter deposition a complex process but allow experts a large degree of control over the growth and microstructure of the film.

Safina is not only a producer of big and heavy sputtering targets, but we are also able to offer targets for small coating machines and chambers which are mostly used at universities, laboratories, R&D companies etc. Targets can be made from Au, Ag, Pt, Pd and their alloys with other components.

We are able to produce targets starting at 0,1 mm thick, round shaped targets with diameters from 10 mm up to 250 mm. We are able to produce square and rectangle shaped targets starting from dimensions of 10 x 10 mm. We also inspect erosion profiles of used targets and offer an improvment of the target design for a higher utilization rate.  

Bonding Service

As a special service we offer bonding of the targets. Targets can be bonded from thickness 1 mm, and the customer can choose from three types of bonding: indium, nanofoil or elastomer bonding. For targets thinner than 1 mm we offer gluing of these targets by using special glue which contains silver.

Targets can be bonded on Cu or Mo backing plates. These backing plates can be made in Safina at the customer‘s request or they can be supplied by the customer in the form of new backing plates or used bonded targets. In this case, used targets are debonded and the backing plate is cleaned and isnpected for the next bonding.


Safina is not only a producer of sputtering targetsWe offer complete service with handling of precious metals, including refining. This service is very important, especially in these times when prices of precious metals are very high compared to previous years. Refined metals are stored on the customer‘s metal account and can be used to manufacture new products or can be sold upon special request.
